Procrastination, Such an Agravation

I write this blog out of procrastination from doing any sort of essay research whatsoever and with mild discontentment at what I feel is the current state of Television Production at Bournemouth University. Probably doesn’t help at the moment that I’m flatter than a Stingray eating pancakes…O.K. so that was the first Clarkson-esque analogy out of the way, but alas here are some thoughts, in some sort of order, that have some sort of relevance, to some stuff that I do.

First of all, I have this essay to write around the theme of Media Conflict and Power which in my honest opinion is something that I enjoy greatly and have a good interest in. What I do find puzzling however is how this will allow me to make Television Programmes. For instance we were all given a film (great we can gain some use out of that) and a book. The book I was given was Journalism: Critical Issues by Stuart Allan and I was ask, as we’re the whole group to write a review on said book. Now I’m not knocking the book because it was actually winning in Life, very thought provoking and look at a variety of different issues that pertain to journalism and how that effects the social psyche. What I don’t understand is what relevance it has within my course as the only practical processes I can identify are those that journalists use. There’s none of that technical stuff us T.V. lot learn from so I deem it a bit pointless to write a book review on it. That being said, it is an interesting read, but something I would do on my own time, but I would like to recommend it to you, but only from a Library, as £20.99 is rather steep.

NEXT

Right, Placements. We all have to do 6 weeks in order to pass this course, and I am currently at 0. I know a lot of people are in a similar boat and I’m trying to get this done but it just takes a significant amount of time to get everything done and I am someone who wants to get things done properly. I spoke to someone in Industry who said its very important to make a brand for yourself, a USP if you will, something that makes you marketable and desired by others. This is something that I’ve been trying to do well but the time unfortunately hasn’t come about yet. I need to cobble together a nice little show reel, something that I can initially send off to prospective employers, to give them a taste of what I have to offer. The problem I have is that I have a horrible fear of asking somebody i do not know for a very big favour. I mean why would somebody want to give up their time for a second year student? I know that’s the hurdle that i need to get over and I’m sure we will. Thing is we have a shoot coming up this next week and we are travelling up to London tomorrow in order to get everything sorted, so its just finding the time to fit everything in. But I’m sure we will.

That’ll be all for today. Haven’t got the energy to rant much more. Lazy I know

Thats all for Now.

Snow Go.

Every blog entry I seem to post these days seems to contain the phrase “I know I haven’t blogged in a while, but…” in its opening statement, and theres another. Now I do like to blog, but deep down inside I am a lazy person when it comes to such things as there is no real overall incentive to do such a thing apart from creating an account for my thoughts Re: University. So after tucking into a 8 interlaced fish finger sandwich lets go.

Just been Christmas, and Santa was generous to give me Adobe Production Suite which I have never mention on Facebook…or Twitter…20 Times. The suite comes with a wealth of applications which I feel will be able to enhance my skill level, whilst giving what we produce as a group at Uni a higher quality ‘gloss’ to it. After Effects is the main application that I got wet over as it allows for some stunning composites to be made. Just think of it as Photoshop but for video. I have used it a bit in the past but I am no where near an expert on it, but I feel its an area in which I will be able to develop in and with Editing being the area I would mostly like to venture into, its a good package to add to your skill set. It seems that an After Effects fad has started up amongst a few of us on the course. When it comes to the Indy Drama, I’m hoping for a bit of a War with the old thing, but I have a lot of practice to do before then. I have had a cheeky little pander on it just to get myself going and come up with this.

That brings me on to my new little obsession that I have which is with the Video sharing website Vimeo. Now many years ago (God that makes me sound ratherold), I used to think that Vimeo was a much less successful version of YouTube, doing the same thing, just less well. But its completely different to that. Whereas YouTube seems to be king of the Viral video, Copyright Infringement and People watching Two Woman eating together, Vimeo seems to be the place for the Media Professional and the Media Pioneer. I Find it refreshing to see original independant work with high production values rather than regurgitated Broadcasts or poorly made Harry Potter Parodies. I find its a good place to get your imagination sparked, albeit avoiding the minefield of plagiarism, and encouraging you to think out the box.

Britain also seems to be gripped by snow which is something I’ve never experienced in my lifetime, but thanks to global warming, the ‘Big Freeze’ has become a reality. Whilst many people seem to be moaning about sand and salt, its a good excuse for the inner 4 year old child to come out. This is what we Richard, Jack and Myself made yesterday…

Sophie the Snowman

Anyhow, thats it for this one, not a great blog, but a blog nonetheless. Also, I think you should have a look at my good friend James Lewis’ Blog as it is much more insightful than mine. Hope you all have alot of fun in the snow.

Learning Television Again…

Right, it has been some time since i last published a blog post, and to be honest I have been putting off writing this one for some time. Seeing that the only worthwhile thing to do at this current time is watch two Irish ‘expletives’ sing on the telly or write my C.V., I’ll think I’ll do a bit of catching up on this old dog. My last blog post revolved around the ridiculousness of the Middle East, and how much ‘man-love’ I have for a certain small Brazilian, slightly off-topic from what this blog is supposed to be about which I’m told is my University Progress. So after a Summer of African Night Workers, Swine Flu, Camels, Roy Keanes’ Family and a very dear friends amazing wedding, We’re back.

The unit that we’re looking at this term is Authorship which to begin with I was rather apprehensive about. I don’t know whether this was because of an apparent lack of knowledge on the subject on my behalf or the mandatory ‘Second Year Wobbles’ but for some reason there was an air of tentativeness about myself. However come the first Thematic and realising “Hey, I’m not as much of a vegetable as I thought I was when it comes to this.” was somewhat comforting and fueled my thirst for this Television lark a bit more. For the first time on this course I’ve found that I’m able to take in all of whats being said, Theories, Ideologies et al, much more easily than before, thus prompting discussions in even the weirdest of places with Mr. Samuel Ardley. I know many agree that Dr. Shaun Kimber has a really good way of delivering his Thematic Lectures, by getting a good balance with generic media-esque jargon with ‘every-man’ terminology provoking thought in even my head, which is as rare as the Northern Lights in Ethiopia. The upshot of all this is that I’m more confident than ever when it comes to writing an essay, but we’ll see how it goes.

PRODUCTIONS…erhum. We’ve recently just finished filming our Another World Documentary strand and it currently lays on a hard disk ready to be edited in a room somewhere in the depths of Weymouth House…all 5 tapes worth, which again I would like to thank my group for providing me with. The film is going to be of a Dolls Hospital/Workshop/Shop based up the road from Bournemouth in Kinson highlighting the processes that are undertaken of producing and Restorating dolls. The place in Question is Ellie’s Doll Workshop run by the lovely Lesley and Mike who were very accommodating to us and our project and it was a privilege working with them. They were also very sympathetic towards my incident last weekend as well god bless them. Now, i’ll be the first one to admit that observational documentary isn’t really my keenest topic, so for this one my group we’re kind enough to allow me the editing responsibilities as I fell that its my strongest practical area thus far. I’m looking forward to editing this strand as last time I was in the edit suite with a group project, the circumstances wern’t overly favourable, but this time everything is looking pretty pleasuregoat. I’ll post the final thing on here.

So Yea, thats about it for the time being. Just want to gabber on about the old Formula 1 once more as I swear I have never done this ever before on here. But Congratulations Jenson Button. Stirling Season. Here’s a video about him and his awesomeness, threading a 200mph needle through the streets of Monaco. Brave.

Mo Money, Mo Problems.

And when you have No money, your problems become Notorious, hence, enter Dubai stage left. I was lucky enough to go to this somewhat magical place albeit only for a couple of days but in that time you see and learn so much, and whilst I make myself increasingly infertile due to radiant heat from ones laptop I thought i’d share a few thoughts I had about the place. Not being able to sleep on an overnight flight plays with your mind somewhat you see. Also, I’ll try not to sound like a complete prick whilst writing this but lets face it, thats going to happen.

What you see in the travel brochures and see in the media about Dubai is true, Its epic in scale, magnificent in form, however ridiculous in nature. When you arrive you’re immediately taken aback by just how modern everything is and how everything functions seamlessly together making everything thing rather efficent, which is something I’m sure James May would approve of. Everyone’s very polite, Everyone speaks English, infact its pretty much just a ‘mash-up’ of London and New York whilst at the same time combining their temperatures and humidity’s to make one super hot, super sticky metropolis. 90% of the shops in the Worlds Biggest Shopping Centre, The Dubai Mall, are western, with only a select traditional Arabic dress shops on the Lower ground for to cater for the locals. That combined with every single sign post displayed in Dual languages (English and Arabic), you start to question whether this country is denying its roots and history in order to widen its appeal to the west. If your looking for Arabic culture then this place is not overly for you, there are other places that would be considered better, such as the suburbs of Paris for example, but as one of the modern wonders of the modern world, it really has to be seen to be believed. It could be considered quite ‘gimmicky’ with everything having to be the best, hence the Dubai Mall, as well as the worlds largest indoor ski slope which will just eclipse Great Blakenham’s own when that thing is built. Our hotel was opposite the worlds biggest building, the Burj Dubai, and at 800 meters tall it really does introduce Vertebrae to one and other, but one does feel that it could become a white elephant in current economic times.

Burj Dubai (Metres 400 to 800 incl. 3 cracked Vertibrae)

Burj Dubai (Metres 400 to 800 incl. 3 cracked Vertibrae)

Burj Dubai (Meters 0 to 400)

Burj Dubai (Meters 0 to 400)

Speaking of the economy, an interesting thing was seen at the Airport which was that of automobiles parked up, rather expensive ones too, an BMW M5 was even scouted. Anyhow, with this M5, the keys were still in the ignition and a note was placed upon the dash reading something along the lines of “This is Car I haven’t paid for, I can’t pay for it, I never will. I’m out of the place, and never coming back. It seems the place that was devised in a dream has broken that of many. However, its not a bad place and its intentions are good. Their Government seems to have have the right idea, they are strongly supported and not a critical word is said against them. Crime is pretty much non-existent and it just seems that Americans 6000 miles away have ruined it for everyone. I do feel that they will sort it out though, the people that run it are far to smart and something will get sorted. Still go there though, its very beautiful, just avoid all the building sites and 20% of the worlds cranes and you’ll be fine.

Quadbikers in the Arabian Desert

Quadbikers in the Arabian Desert

O.K. Maybe I will never make it as a Travel Correspondent but those were some of my brief thoughts on the place.  So yes, back to work it is. Now i do enjoy working even if its as a Sales Assistant as its nice to talk to different people each day and find out a little bit about themselves and such as I think its a good place to get Ideas. You get a few which arn’t that fantastic, who think you should drop everything espeically for them and make your day a bit more stressed than it should of been but on the whole it is good. The financial benefit is also worthwhile. Aside from this home is good, I mean i get to see the closest people to me that I hardly get to see for the rest of the year and get up to notoriously dodgy schemes which often end with hilarious concequence. I also see it as a good chance to re-charge some batteries, take up Tennis which I’m awful at before heading back South in a month which has come round ever so quickly. I do miss the whole Uni scene as i’ve met some lovely people this year that I cherish dearly and when Poker Face carreared into my playlist it brought back some happy memories. Can’t wait to be back…however causing less mischeif.

Finally, I’d just like to show some mad love to Felipe Massa who has just been released from hospital thank god after his horrific accident at the weekend. He is a very talented sportsman and seems like a top bloke, and i wish him the best of recovery. So here is the lad.

Next: Refreshers (circa childhood)

Well thats it, aside from the formality of recieving one’s grade the first year is now done and dusted. Upon taking the role of a regretful Serb disposing of Russian dissidents combined with listening to overly affluent white men repeatedly explaining how they’re on a boat, I’m sure you can understand one would be feeling rather reflective. It doesn’t seem like a week ago since we just started in September, however what I’ve learnt not only about myself and things that I have to know for the old course but from the big book of life as well has been so great, that I believe that as I person I have been able to change for somewhat the better. Here it is, my summary of the year, hopefully with humurous undertones.

Corfe House, no place better to kick off the list with. Home for 9 months and it will only be for another week and a half until I’m off, but this place has served up some fantastic memories. The fact that you can find pretty much anyone to talk to within a minute of your door was great, but it is a very peeks and troughs experience due to the fact that you breathe eachothers lives every minute of everyday around this place. Knowing everyones business is not necessarily a bad thing as it kind of allows you to quickly hear who the genuine folk, slags and rapists are and take a pick of who you’d want to associate yourself with…and yes Steve Lovell is a rapist. Problem with this ‘business’ talk is when it swivels around back on yourself which, unfortunatly to a point it has done this year. Not the most enjoyable experience in the world, not knowing what to say to people when asked about it as you don’t want your words misconstrued which could ultimatly put you in a complicated situation is a never a good thing. Luckily I’m quite thicked skinned, or atleast i’d like to think so, so i didn’t let it bother me much, but its definitly better to keep it on the downlow. But here are the people I’ve grown and known to love over the past 9 months, and I know I will miss them very much over the summer.

Hasselhoff and Anderson Aspiration

Hasselhoff and Anderson Aspiration

I could write endless pages of stuff about statistically the best course in the country (The Guardian says so, so nerr.) but i shall try to keep it a bit breif. At the start of the year, I was overly skeptical about ones own skill level compared to everyone elses, due to the fact that my school never gave a decent foundation into all things moving image. The diversity of backgrounds on our course made this overly complicated, and thank god for the “assume no knowledge” approach that they take at the beginning. I do feel like i’ve able to progressed somewhat but as all practisers of media (definitly a real phrase) will testify, you can always pick major faults in your own work. I’ve manage to meet some fantastic people this year, are great fun to be around and will always give you the time of day, and i hope i do this back to them as much as I should. Sorry about the sentiment there. I’ve found that being in Corfe has made it hard to integrate with the course somewhat, but during the Summer Project I came so clear that the whole year just came incredibly close, which is just spiffing, and we’ve had some jolly good old laughs along the way. Personal highlights include the Narratives assessed piece not only for being able to embaress Alex Gardiner in front of about 70 people, but to see your teams hard graft get rewarded. Also the Independant project deadline day when pretty much half of the course were still up gone midnight in edit suites getting it all done, with major camradery coming as a result. Presentation day was just jokes. The most nerve-racking moment on my life was rewarded with this quote from Channel 4 Head of Talet “It was like watching the Men in Black”, which just made my year instantly. Oh and before i forget, sharing a bed with Mr. Sam Ardley on more than one occaision is a memory that will live with me to the grave.

The Last Supper of the A Team

The Last Supper of the A Team

The Big Book of Life. What have i learnt this year that I should take into consideration in the future. Well, just like that guys blog Marion Mayer showed us at the start of the year here is my list. (Or whatever I can remember whilst listening to jazz at 1:01am.)

  • Facebook can be Expensive - Most of you know the story, and it would be improper for one to divulge into it once more but pretty much take it as read…Don’t slag anyone off on it or it may cost you money…or even a limb or two, who knows.
  • Don’t say someone’s alot of Fun when they’re not - They will hate you forever, espeically when combined when comitting certain acts on certain people that said person may have an inclination towards. Charles Manson is not fun to be around I shall tell you now.
  • The NHS - God Send to the ‘average’ University student as you shall find out below.
  • Conducting Biology Seminars - If you constantly get your wedding vegetables out, a stigma will become attached extremely quickly which unfortunatly cannot be rid anytime soon. Avoid exposation infront of Police Cars, as they are particulary hostile towards late night seminars as such.
  • Rupert Murdoch is not just on T.V. - Don’t take what you hear on face value, it can get you into a lot of shit, so much shit in fact, you will smell very badly and therefore will require a shower instantaniously.
  • Dragon’s Den - People will find out exactly what you are about in the end, what you’ve done in the end, and people will make presumptions about you. Just be Coy, and think of awesome excuses to get you out of it.
  • Bollards…arn’t fun - Avoid them at all costs, two seperate incidents, 4 trips to A and E, Enough pints to get you pissed, enough golf balls to cheat against Tiger Woods, A woman trying to fight the Germans in an aerial manner in 1940 and 2 months of no sex isn’t really worth it.

So yes, that was my little summery of what I’ve learnt/What’s happened to me over the year. I am looking forward to have some time off to really appreciate what I have when we come back in September. Can’t wait to start again though. Focus Pulls are Sick. Off to the Beach in 10 hours. What other Uni has that?

I’ll just leave you with this video that comes under the catagory of AWESOME! So Enjoy.

Only the Essays to go.

Now, I’m only writing this blog today so that I have an up to date thought before I start the chore which is PDP analysis. I honest would rather fly to Mexico and staple my mouth to a Pigs mouth and take my chances. Unfortunatly however I’m a poor student so I can’t afford to do that. On Wednesday, it was the culmination of 7 weeks of work and which before hand seemed quite a daunting day, but infact was quite the contrary. Personally i’d never presented to anymore than about 50 people, so when 200 we’re sitting infront of me, you’d have to think that the phrase ’shitting it’ would be applicable. Nerves were there, so much so that i totally fucked up my first line and the word Anonymously had an extra 7 syllaballs in it but we managed to get through. When the K-Men Video got a rupurous applause it made life seem alot easier in the sense that people thought we were funny. Well I say us, i mean the very amazing Jim Cross who pulled out all the stops for us. But it all went well, nerves went and things got a lot easier. The feedback we got was very flattering seeing that Sam and Myself were referred to as the “Men in Black” by the head of Channel 4 Talent, which was quite surreal.

Before the presentation however it was the stock situation which seems to revolve around the equation of Shit + Fan x Stress = fucked.com, but it worked out ok in the end. We had problems with the website and with the film but in the end it all came out ok and everyone pulled out all the stops which was great. This Summer Project has put the whole year into perspective in terms of what i’ve learnt. When looking at the scriptwriters and the interactive media courses, you can see that the teamwork aspect isn’t as prominant as in T.V. and some problems did occur because of this. Also you learn alot about yourself and how you deal with stress when it all goes tits up. Deliria and Loss of rational thought seem to be stock for me. The only thing we have to do now is these blasted Essays which shouldn’t take too long as they do not really include too much academic reading and revovle mostly around the processes of sorts. Well thats how i’m trying to think of it anyway.

We also got our Independent perform projects back this week as well and I was pleased with a 66%, a solid 2:1. There does seem to be a inconsistancy in marking on the course however as some epically awesome stuff didn’t get the marks that they warrented which, if it was me would be increadibly disheartening, but these people seem to be increadibly chilled about the whole thing.

Right i don’t really want to ramble on too much as I need to get on with this PDP nonsense.

Catching Up…

Bloody Hell, it has been absolutely ages since I last left a post and a lot has happened since the last one, so i’d thought i’d take a few moments whilst I eat my dinner get this thing up to date. So yes, the course has been going at a rate of knots, faster than Kimi Raikkonen on a Jet Pack powered by a plasma-red bull cocktail so to speak and the old self has had a torrid time to say the least…and i’ve just realised i’ve spilt Ragu over my keyboard, bad times.

So when we got back to University, we we’re given a whole new group and sent on our way with our summer projects, which is to start a campaign up and push it as far is it can go, and then present it to Channel 4, which will now be in a few weeks time. From the Television side of things, I have some awesome people that I am eternally grateful for being in the same group as me. The Lovely Miss. Aisling Doherty and the lively fellows which be that of Mr. Joff Harvey and Mr. Sam Shetabi give us what i think is a very well rounded group when it comes to the production side of things. From the sides of Interactive Media and Scriptwriting we have some awesome folks which allow the group to have an extra dimension as they all look at things in a slightly different light to us T.V. folk, which is a very good thing. Its at times like this where you learn a lot more about yourself as a person, and the skills that I’ve obtained over the year, such as the increased ability to work effectively as a team and that your realise that different professions don’t really do this as well, I mean, just look at the Labour Party for one. The campaign we are doing is called uKarma, which is basically a rip off of My Name Is Earl, but it seems to have had a good reception from Peers and Tutors a like. We’ve been filming rather alot for it recently and its done my head in, so i’m not going to badger on about it here now but here is a picture of us on shoot.

Aside from the summer project, we’ve also had to have our independant projects in only just last week, in fact, this time last week I was in the edit suite with the very lovely Ally Young toiling away to no end trying to get it done so that we could have a reasonable amount of sleep that night. Invevitably, that didn’t happen in the slightest…we left University at 4:30am. Now when a project gets set back in early October you’d think you’d get it done well in time. But the best thing is, nobody did, and the ‘comaradery’ as a result was absolutely fantastic. When you see that your computer has a 2 hour render time, your quite thankful that there are people around to pester, and they never seem to mind as edit suites are usually rather lonely places. The final products though were bloody stunning, and we’ve definitely outdone last years Celebrate independents by a long way so well done to all.

now…I’ve just found T.A.T.U on Spotify…really really cool…

Anyway, personally, i’ve had a rather frustrating time recently, due to the fact that I severed my Urethra and lost rather alot of a certain fluid which shouldn’t come out the end of ones Penis, anyway its almost better which is nice, but i think it ties in very nicely with my Karma Campaign as most of the time, I am a complete and utter cunt. But yes, apart from that, things are good. Anyway I cannot be arsed to ramble on anymore as I have something much more important to do now and thats thank all of the lovely people that helped on our shoot today. Anyway here is a video of the late great Colin McRae which makes me require new boxers.

Peace Out P-Town Down.

Loaded 44 on the low, Where the Cheese at? Fresh off the jet to the Projects, Where the G’s at?

Take what you want from the title of this entry. Basically I have just been listening to rather to much T.I and the song is stuck in my head which as a line which blatantly focuses on him wondering where his money is and that he just wants to chill with his homeslices. I think it has a nice synergy with University, but then again that’s just me being a media type.

As i write this blog I am currently watching natural selection at its finest, courtesy of a rather stumpy businessman from Hackney. As reality T.V. goes, the apprentice is the best that it gets as I find at least that it pertains to everyday issues and reality, much more accurately than watching someone who has sang in the shower every morning for the past 17 years and somehow thought it would be a good idea to show 10 million people of a Saturday evening. But anyway, this isn’t a moan about T.V for once, even though as a T.V student, that’s what I should be doing. So…yes…University

I’d thought I’d give an ounce of reflection seeing of which that this term has flown by as quickly as Plasma powered Alpaca. Even though I do love university life and the fantastic people that I have grown to know and love more and more over the past few months, I think its time for a break. Having too much of a good thing I believe takes away sentimental value of what it represents, so I’m sure the time away will allow me to appreciate every aspect of University more.

So this term, with only four assessed assignments that needed to be in was quite challenging. Not because of the workload, although at times with the productions in particular was very stressful, but because of the lack of work which meant no routine could be established or any work ethos to be developed. I just realised that I’m starting to talk like Joshua P. Wildman so i shall stop. Anyway, the upshot is essays don’t really happen until they have to be done, which consequently means that your mark terms out pretty ‘gash’ to put it eloquently. The fact that you have to front about what you know in terms of the theory because you’ve been to lazy to pay attention in a Monday morning keynote when the appeal of sorting out all of the album artwork on iTunes tops your priority list pretty much means that your doomed. However a 2:2 on the second essay we’ve had back isn’t too bad, just need to get the other one back after Easter. 33 hours of editing Batman turned out to be a rather emotional affair in more ways than one. For some reason we just felt that it could of been so much more. So when the final score came in, we were over the moon to get a solid 2:1 and the whole team done a stellar job. This was starkly contrasted with the aftermath a few weeks later but the less said about that would be better. Documentaries were a fresh breath of air as the filming process became much more relaxed as there was no need to do take after take and actors messing up their lines. This with the increasing possibility of visual pornography and some death defying shot placement, one cannot complain one little bit and it was a pleasure working with the fantastic group which is that of A1. But at the end of the day, there is a relief to get to the end of the term.

Risking Life, Limb and Insurance Premiums

Risking Life, Limb and Insurance Premiums

Now the Easter break was well received on my part, it was good to get back home to the old Barracks which is that of Ipswich and fantastic to see the old group again to relive memories of old, whilst making new ones all the same. Going back to the title of this here blog, my cheese has pretty much run out as my bank account only has 15 little slices within it. So when my previous workplace came a calling for 3 weeks over Easter it was rather appreciated on my part. Now working is fantastic, but shop work isn’t really that exhilarating or fulfilling in the slightest in terms of achieving something significant in ones life, unless you take it to the next level and start up your own business. Well, that’s how i see it. I look back at the 4 months I had there back in the summer and I wonder how I did it, as even after a week and a half I’m already struggling. I don’t know whether this is down to just being out of the swing of things for a few months or what but I’m definitely feeling it after these few days. Luckily I get to work with some fantastic people which make it worthwhile and the laughs along the way are lovely. In a way I’m looking forward to working there over the summer with the new intake of students and having a lot of banter along the way. It sure is character building.

Anyway next term should be good with the Summer Project. The thrill of working with a new group of people, some of which I’m sure I won’t know very well at all, and the fact that its all on our own backs and at the end of the day we have to present it to channel 4 will be quite exhilarating. Anyway, as I listen to T.I for one more time I shall leave you with a video, one of which is on my favourites on YouTube as it just shows how narrow minded and frankly shit American Television coverage of sport is…and it also shows us owning them and winning at life.

In Theory…

O.K. I know i shouldn’t be doing this, but at this moment in time Im sitting in a Chris Pullen lecture watching a film called Tarnation. Now its been on for about 7 minutes now and we’ve at least had 3 references of homosexuality already, so get your Bingo cards out everyone. This is in fact the last Keynote Lecture I will have for the rest of the year which is somewhat comforting, it means that I will be able to witness the Fire Alarm test at Corfe House for the first time since Freshers week again. Anyhow, we were presented with our Media Theory options today and to be honest they are somewhat invigorating to the mind as this is the first inkling we have of what next year will be like. For me at least it will be to avoid Claudia as I’m not a big fan of Kaleidoscopic Relationships, but at least Hugh Chignell will be there to save the day with his masculinity filled documentary strand.

So what else, i managed to sprint into a goal post whilst playing football at the weekend which required 3 stitches behind my ear and earned me a mild concussion, but you know life goes on. I must thank Mr. Lovell, Miss. Head, Miss. Sydenham and Miss. Evett for their Paramedic service which was much appreciated. The thing is I could possibly get an extension on my essay because of it, but I cannot be bothered with the hassle. This week we are shooting our Documentary entitled One in a Million. It revolves around Mike who has a form of Dwarfism which has only been documented 175 in history, so that should be rather interesting, we just have to get the last bit of planning out the way. The best thing though about this week is…Its St. Patricks Day Tomorrow!!!

Generating Discourse

This week has been an interesting one to say the least and it is one that I would like to forget very quickly. One positive that I can draw from it though is the Idea of Discourse which is very appropriate at the moment as I am supposed to be writing an essay including it at the moment…but thats simply not happening.

To kick things off, I start off with this evening. Mr. Lovell forced Mr. Cullen, Mr. Morris, Mr. Carline, Mr. Dunbar as well as myself down into the fine Bournemouth Town in order to watch the newly released Watchman. Now, when the Soviet Union was mention in the first 30 seconds I thought to myself…”Yes, the Soviets, this is going to be good.”. But what unravelled was a 163 minute film with a story all over the place with characterisations that were so miss guided I may as well of been watching Cruffs. This generated much discourse, especially with one gentleman in the Gents as well as my fine course mates Mr. Gaine, Mr. Farmery, Mr. Cross and Mr. Ardley. One thing that we did manage to determine however was how it reflected my drunken antics last night. The fact that a Knife was held to ones genitalia, nudity and  intimacy we’re all reflected was all quite surreal, but again expected by most people, so much so that it’s now a stigma that has seemed to be permanently attached. The experience of watching the Blue Man Group performing Foreplay whilst conducting Scientific Protocols was quite emotional, somewhat so that it left most of us feeling like we’d had extremely disappointing sex. This was quickly turned around on the bus journey home as well when we met a fine gentleman who met Joe back in 1999 whilst on a Mechanical Engineering Degree in Sheffield, and is a keen watcher of the Infamous flying pyramids. Yes as you can guess this guy was off his face, so much so that he almost got run over by the bus before he got on it, and then had a fight with a pole. That saved the evening somewhat in my eyes.

Anyway I have had a stressful week nonetheless, endless productions that need to get ready, starting to think about the essay and the infamous ‘Facebookgate’ incident which thankfully now has been resolved, so nothing needs to be mentioned about it. Ones personal life has been a hot topic for discussion in and around Corfe House which has come to fruition but then again, anything a bit juicy goes round bloody quickly when you live in a block of flats containing 300 people. Again…Discourse.

Anyway It is currently 2:17 as I type this and I’m very tired so I shall leave you to your own devices so I can get some shut eye. Here is the weekly video…no reasoning behind it. Oh Yes Murray Walker.
