Well thats it, aside from the formality of recieving one’s grade the first year is now done and dusted. Upon taking the role of a regretful Serb disposing of Russian dissidents combined with listening to overly affluent white men repeatedly explaining how they’re on a boat, I’m sure you can understand one would be feeling rather reflective. It doesn’t seem like a week ago since we just started in September, however what I’ve learnt not only about myself and things that I have to know for the old course but from the big book of life as well has been so great, that I believe that as I person I have been able to change for somewhat the better. Here it is, my summary of the year, hopefully with humurous undertones.
Corfe House, no place better to kick off the list with. Home for 9 months and it will only be for another week and a half until I’m off, but this place has served up some fantastic memories. The fact that you can find pretty much anyone to talk to within a minute of your door was great, but it is a very peeks and troughs experience due to the fact that you breathe eachothers lives every minute of everyday around this place. Knowing everyones business is not necessarily a bad thing as it kind of allows you to quickly hear who the genuine folk, slags and rapists are and take a pick of who you’d want to associate yourself with…and yes Steve Lovell is a rapist. Problem with this ‘business’ talk is when it swivels around back on yourself which, unfortunatly to a point it has done this year. Not the most enjoyable experience in the world, not knowing what to say to people when asked about it as you don’t want your words misconstrued which could ultimatly put you in a complicated situation is a never a good thing. Luckily I’m quite thicked skinned, or atleast i’d like to think so, so i didn’t let it bother me much, but its definitly better to keep it on the downlow. But here are the people I’ve grown and known to love over the past 9 months, and I know I will miss them very much over the summer.

Hasselhoff and Anderson Aspiration
I could write endless pages of stuff about statistically the best course in the country (The Guardian says so, so nerr.) but i shall try to keep it a bit breif. At the start of the year, I was overly skeptical about ones own skill level compared to everyone elses, due to the fact that my school never gave a decent foundation into all things moving image. The diversity of backgrounds on our course made this overly complicated, and thank god for the “assume no knowledge” approach that they take at the beginning. I do feel like i’ve able to progressed somewhat but as all practisers of media (definitly a real phrase) will testify, you can always pick major faults in your own work. I’ve manage to meet some fantastic people this year, are great fun to be around and will always give you the time of day, and i hope i do this back to them as much as I should. Sorry about the sentiment there. I’ve found that being in Corfe has made it hard to integrate with the course somewhat, but during the Summer Project I came so clear that the whole year just came incredibly close, which is just spiffing, and we’ve had some jolly good old laughs along the way. Personal highlights include the Narratives assessed piece not only for being able to embaress Alex Gardiner in front of about 70 people, but to see your teams hard graft get rewarded. Also the Independant project deadline day when pretty much half of the course were still up gone midnight in edit suites getting it all done, with major camradery coming as a result. Presentation day was just jokes. The most nerve-racking moment on my life was rewarded with this quote from Channel 4 Head of Talet “It was like watching the Men in Black”, which just made my year instantly. Oh and before i forget, sharing a bed with Mr. Sam Ardley on more than one occaision is a memory that will live with me to the grave.

The Last Supper of the A Team
The Big Book of Life. What have i learnt this year that I should take into consideration in the future. Well, just like that guys blog Marion Mayer showed us at the start of the year here is my list. (Or whatever I can remember whilst listening to jazz at 1:01am.)
- Facebook can be Expensive - Most of you know the story, and it would be improper for one to divulge into it once more but pretty much take it as read…Don’t slag anyone off on it or it may cost you money…or even a limb or two, who knows.
- Don’t say someone’s alot of Fun when they’re not - They will hate you forever, espeically when combined when comitting certain acts on certain people that said person may have an inclination towards. Charles Manson is not fun to be around I shall tell you now.
- The NHS - God Send to the ‘average’ University student as you shall find out below.
- Conducting Biology Seminars - If you constantly get your wedding vegetables out, a stigma will become attached extremely quickly which unfortunatly cannot be rid anytime soon. Avoid exposation infront of Police Cars, as they are particulary hostile towards late night seminars as such.
- Rupert Murdoch is not just on T.V. - Don’t take what you hear on face value, it can get you into a lot of shit, so much shit in fact, you will smell very badly and therefore will require a shower instantaniously.
- Dragon’s Den - People will find out exactly what you are about in the end, what you’ve done in the end, and people will make presumptions about you. Just be Coy, and think of awesome excuses to get you out of it.
- Bollards…arn’t fun - Avoid them at all costs, two seperate incidents, 4 trips to A and E, Enough pints to get you pissed, enough golf balls to cheat against Tiger Woods, A woman trying to fight the Germans in an aerial manner in 1940 and 2 months of no sex isn’t really worth it.
So yes, that was my little summery of what I’ve learnt/What’s happened to me over the year. I am looking forward to have some time off to really appreciate what I have when we come back in September. Can’t wait to start again though. Focus Pulls are Sick. Off to the Beach in 10 hours. What other Uni has that?
I’ll just leave you with this video that comes under the catagory of AWESOME! So Enjoy.
Ciao xxx
